LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Missouri- Local fire agencies have recovered the body of 13 year-old Eric Dietrich from Salt Hollow Cove on the 21 mile marker at the Lake of the Ozarks. The teen is from Geneseo, Illinois according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Troopers say say Eric jumped from a 2017 Cobalt Runabout boat into the cove about 4 p.m. Wednesday. He apparently suffered a medical condition and did not resurface. After a search and recovery effort by the Osage Beach Fire & Mid-County Fire, the young man was found and pronounced deceased at the scene by Medical Examiner Dr. Crystal Lloyd.

Dietrich is the fifth fatality this year at Lake of the Ozarks, according to online records by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Three of the total were killed in a boating crash.

In May of 2011, a St. Louis man drowned in the same cove. Timothy L. Miller, 39, died during a late night swim when he was unable to return to a dock.

In this latest incident, troopers responded at 4:05 p.m. and were assisted by other agencies.
