TANEY COUNTY, Missouri-  The Missouri Department of Conservation says that illegal poaching on public fisheries continues to be a problem.

Taney County Conservation Agent Chris Boyd recently confronted two individuals cleaning fish on Lake Taneycomo, the agency said. During the contact, Agent Boyd noticed they possessed 10 rainbow trout. The current daily limit of rainbow trout is four per person.

The individuals stated they were aware of the daily possession limit, but didn’t notice they had 10 trout in their live well until they got back to the boat dock. As the investigation continued, several additional bags of trout were recovered from these individuals — which ultimately put them at 42 trout over their possession limit.

Agent Boyd issued several citations and seized the 42 trout, which were later donated to a needy family within Taney County. If you suspect or observe illegal activity such as this, please contact your local conservation agent or call Operation Game Thief at 1-800-392-1111. – Joe@MDC
