CAMDEN COUNTY, Missouri- On Monday, July 23, 2018, at 8:12 AM, the Mid-County Fire Protection District, MCFPD, was dispatched to a reported residential house explosion and fire. Firefighters arrived on scene at 8:13 AM to find a single-story duplex structure with heavy fire involvement in the right unit. Firefighters began a fire attack using several hand lines, a deck gun and an aerial ladder. The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes.
There was an adult female and a small child in the residence at the time of the fire. Both escaped the residence before firefighters arrived on scene. The child was not injured. The adult female had serious burns and was transported from the scene to Lake Regional Hospital by Camden County Ambulance District. The adult female was then flown to the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia for treatment, the agency said.
The right unit of the duplex suffered extensive fire damage and the left unit of the duplex suffered moderate smoke and water damage. MCFPD was assisted at the scene by an Engine from the Osage Beach Fire Protection District and Camdenton Police Department.
The fire is being investigated by the Missouri State Fire Marshal and the MCFPD Fire Marshal. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the family with immediate needs.
While MCFPD was working this fire emergency, a medical emergency was received on Old State Highway 5 North of Camdenton. The Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District responded an Engine to this medical emergency for MCFPD, the chief said.
