LEBANON, Missouri- On Thursday afternoon, Lebanon police say there were called to 1800 block of South Jefferson Avenue for a report of shoplifting. The arriving officer was told the theft suspect was being detained by a store employee.

A store employee told police he watched  a male subject pick up a box of Painters markers and take the markers out of the box,  he then concealed the markers in his pocket. The employee also said he watched the man take a Flash baseball cap and put it on his head. Store staff said the man then tried to leave the store without paying for items valued at $15.94.

The officer reported he took Derek Zupsich, 28, of Springfield into custody without incident. During a consented interview at the police sation,  Zupsich said he was “dared” by someone to steal the items.  Zupsich a summons to appear in Lebanon Municipal Court on March 16, 2017. The subject was then taken to the Laclede County Jail on two active Wright County warrants.
