UPDATE: Police say Brandon Johnson, 20, of Springfield was arrested by Webster County deputies at about 8 p.m.

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri- Police say Danny L. Dayton, 23, of Springfield was found shot to death on a sidewalk just before 5 p.m. last night.

Dayton’s sister says he was leaving his apartment when he was shot.

Springfield police officers say they responded to 1932 E. Verona at approximately 4:49 p.m. on Nov. 11 regarding a person who had been shot. When officers arrived, they found a deceased male victim with apparent gunshot wounds outside of 1932 E. Verona. The suspect had fled the scene prior to officers arriving.

According to a news release from the Springfield Police Department, Brandon M. Johnson, 20, of Springfield, has been identified as a suspect in this case.

Johnson has not yet been arrested and should be considered armed and dangerous, police say.

Neighbors said they heard up to five gunshots before the deceased man was found by police.

Law enforcement says they do not know what lead to the deadly encounter but the investigation is continuing as they follow up leads.
