UPDATE: Washington County Coroner Tim Warco told Channel 11’s Steven Fisher that one of the officers died at Canonsburg Hospital. The other officer was flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. That officer’s condition has not been released.
CANONSBURG, Pennsylvania- Police in Canonsburg were responding to a domestic disturbance at 120 Woodcrest Road shortly before 3:30 this morning when gunfire erupted.
Initial reports from the scene indicated police were pinned down by the gunfire and that two officers were shot and taken to Canonsburg hospital. One officer was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital. Mayor Dave Rhome confirmed to WJPA News that two officers were shot but did not know their conditions. SWAT teams are also on the scene in addition to a number of area police departments.
The neighborhood around Woodcrest and Fern Street and Canyon Drive has been blocked off. We’ve been talking with neighbors–hear their comments on our hourly newscasts. There is a two-hour delay set in the Canon-McMillan School District, St. Patrick’s and the Chartiers-Houston School District.
