HOUSTON, Missouri- The Houston Herald says accused murderer Daniel G. Campbell has escaped from the Texas County Jail, according to Texas County Sheriff James Sigman.

Campbell left from the rear of the jail and was last seen there just before 6 p.m. Monday. He was wearing a jail-issued uniform – orange and white stripes – and had no shoes.

Sigman said residents in the area should take action to immediately remove keys from vehicles and secure their homes. A perimeter has been established around the Texas County Justice Center area, he said. A temporary command post is established at Mineral Drive and Forrest Street. Officers from the Houston Police Department, Texas County Sheriff’s Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol are present.

Additional manpower is coming to the county from Troop G of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. A Missouri State Highway Patrol helicopter is expected to arrive to the area.

Campbell is charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action in a Boiling Springs Road shooting. Another man was seriously injured.

Residents are advised to call 911 if Cambell is sighted.
