PARKER, Colorado- reports a Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot Friday afternoon during what is being described as a shootout with a suicidal suspect.

The deputy is in critical condition according to Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock. Parker Police tweeted an update at 4:44 p.m. saying the deputy is in surgery.
According to Spurlock, the suspect fired his weapon first shooting at officers, striking the deputy. The suspect fled in an RV and led police on a chase.
The chase ended in a crash, where the suspect was shot and killed.
The man was reportedly seen earlier walking with a gun near Sierra Middle School. Area schools were put on lock out during the situation, but the schools were given the all clear just before 4 p.m. No students were involved and were released to parents around 5 p.m.
