“I’m concerned for the children of these affable, hard working, tax paying folks who filled a necessary niche in our community and provided diversity and literal flavor to our town.”
LEBANON, Missouri- Joe Poor, the Democrat candidate for Missouri Senate District 28 is upset about a raid of the El Charro restaurant that was conducted by ICE agents on Thursday. Sources say enough staff members were taken into custody that it forced a shutdown of the longtime Lebanon establishment.
He posted the following to Facebook:
“I am angry and concerned tonight.
I’m angry because a group of folks went to work this morning and had their existence completely uprooted.
I’m concerned for the children of these affable, hard working, tax paying folks who filled a necessary niche in our community and provided diversity and literal flavor to our town.
I’m concerned and angered because today agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement raided my favorite Mexican restaurant and took several persons into custody for deportation for committing no crime aside from being on the wrong side of an arbitrary line drawn by men who lived generations before any of us.
My deepest concern lies with the children of these folks who maybe left behind.
I’ve reached out to St Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Lebanon to see what sort of aid and grace they can offer these families, and will reach out to the ACLU office in Jefferson City tomorrow morning to see what resources they are able to provide.
I intend to channel this concern and anger into action. I don’t intend to wring my hands and wait for this to happen to another family without at least providing them access to the resources necessary to deal with this unnecessary interruption to their otherwise happy existence.
I’m calling on my friends, especially in communities that might be vulnerable to this type of thing to stand with me and these folks who by and large are just trying to get by like the rest of us.”
