CLEVELAND, Ohio- The FBI says Demetrius Pitts is charged with one count of attempting to provide material support to al Qaeda, a designated foreign terrorist organization.
Officials say Pitts, an American citizen, planned to target those watching a Fourth of July parade in Cleveland, by detonating a bomb.
Officials said Monday and allegedly expressed his support for al-Qaida and said he wanted to kill members of the U.S. military.
FBI Special Agent Stephen Anthony says Pitts scouted out locations this past week for a site to attack in downtown Cleveland.
Anthony said it’s not clear how close Pitts was to carrying out his threats, but authorities couldn’t sit back and wait.
