JEFFERSON CITY, Missouri – Lieutenant Colonel Sandra Karsten has been named Superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. In her previous role, she was the assistant superintendent and oversaw the Patrol’s Professional Standards and Public Information and Education divisions as well as the Patrol’s legal counsel.
Karsten is the first woman to hold the top command position in the 81 year existence of the MSHP.
Karsten is a 31-year veteran of the patrol and has also been involved serving the Boy Scouts, the American Red Cross and Special Olympics. She also has been named “Woman of the Year” by the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Colonel J. Bret Johnson retired yesterday after 30 years of service to the state.
