WASHINGTON, District of Columbia- On Friday, Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler wrote to supporters in favor of tax reform. Republican lawmakers released a broad rewrite of the tax code on Thursday.

Our current tax code is 70,000 pages long, and is now 187 times longer than it was almost a century ago. The tax code is nine times bigger than the Bible and it has no good news. In 1984, it was 24,000 pages long and even that seems way to long. It costs the average American $125 dollars just to get their taxes prepared every year.

According to the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB), 85% of small business owners believe the tax code is too complex. I am actually surprised the number is not 100%. The only reason the tax code is so big is that government has gotten into picking winners and losers.

The tax code also penalizes families for saving. Savings are what families use to pay for a new car or to pay down a mortgage or to send a child to college. A tax code that penalizes families for saving money is a tax code that must be reformed.

Now is the time for the federal government to rein itself in and do more with less. We can and we must give every American a tax break. You can help in this important fight by clicking here:…/FK6…/Vicky-Hartzler-for-Congress/ and making a small contribution of $5, $10, $25 or even $50.
