HAZELWOOD, Missouri- KTVI is reporting an officer with the Hazelwood Police Department was critically injured after a head-on crash Thursday evening in north St. Louis County. The accident happened shortly after 5 p.m. near Village Square at Dunn Road.
Officials with the Missouri Highway Patrol say the officer was on a call assisting another officer traveling westbound on Dunn Road. A driver traveling eastbound on Dunn Road struck the police car on the driver’s side while making a left turn into the Village Square Shopping Center.
That’s when the police car crashed.
The officer is identified as Craig S. Tudor an eleven year veteran of the Hazelwood Police Department. He has suffered a serious injury and is in critical condition. Officer Tudor is 37 years old, married with no children.
The second vehicle involved remained at the scene and the occupants of the vehicle refused emergency medical transportation.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s preliminary investigation, the police vehicle was west bound on Dunn Road with emergency lights and siren activated. A driver of a second vehicle attempted to make a left turn and struck the police vehicle on the driver’s side. The police vehicle then traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned.
