HOPKINSVILLE, Kentucky- The Kentucky State Police was notified by law enforcement in Tennessee that James K. Decoursey is no longer a threat to the public. The agency says he was located in Clarksville, Tennessee where he had a brief encounter with law enforcement. Mr. Decoursey was shot and died from his injuries.
Troopers say they were alerted to the shooting involving an off-duty Hopkinsville police officer at approximately 5:10 P.M. Thursday. The officer was transported to Jenny Stuart Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
Officer Meacham was off duty in his personal vehicle when he was stopped for an alleged traffic stop by who he thought was another police officer. It ended up being an impersonator and the officer was shot soon thereafter. The suspect fled on foot and stole a 1997 White GMC pick-up truck.
