LACLEDE COUNTY, Missouri- A Laclede County man died on Thursday after aiming a rifle at a deputy in the Falcon area.
Deputies from the Laclede County Sheriff’s Office and Missouri Highway Patrol troopers were sent to the 32000 block of Delta Road at 4:39 p.m. Thursday in reference to an intoxicated male in possession of a firearm and threatening suicide. The call was made by the mother of the suspect who was outside the residence in hiding.
Law enforcement officers attempted negotiations with the the suspect identified as Nikolas Martin Wanner, 32, who was inside the residence.
At approximately 7:00 p.m., the sheriff’s office says Wanner exited the back door of the home armed with two rifles and a handgun.
Wanner was then confronted by a deputy who ordered him to drop the weapons. The deputy fired one blast from a 12 gauge shotgun when Wanner raised the rifle at the deputy. The suspect was later declared deceased at the hospital.
According to public court records, an arrest warrant was issued for Wanner for 4th degree domestic assault on November 14th. Bond was set at $2500 cash or surety with conditions. The charge was a misdemeanor offense. The deceased suspect gave his address as 950 Tower Road, Lebanon.
The Missouri Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the incident and the deputy has been placed on routine administrative leave.
