Lake Christian Academy, LCA, (formerly Lake West Christian Academy) recently announced that they partnered with Liberty University Online Academy to implement a new educational program for high school and select middle school aged students that began the second semester of the 2014-2015 school year. Using Liberty University Online Academy curriculum to replace text books, LCA offers its students an on-campus
program in which they will take some online courses during regular school hours in a dedicated blended learning space.
Liberty University certified instructors teach the courses, while Lake Christian Academy’s mentor teachers monitor student progress and provide assistance during the day. Parents are engaged for the entire process and have instant access to every assignment given and completed. “We took this step to provide select online education based on today’s growing necessity for digital literacy, in both the academic and professional world,” President of the LCA Board of Directors Larry Kendall said. “We feel that now is the right time to begin introducing high school students to online courses in preparation for higher learning.”
Students in the blended program will participate in sports and extracurricular activities on campus as well as take some traditional classes. Kendall emphasized that it is important that students who enroll in the blended program feel as if they are part of the student body, and that they have the advantages of social interaction with all students by providing the program on campus.
Monique Begley, LCA Administrator added, “We chose Liberty University Online Academy based on the variety of course options and the implementation and instructional support it offers. Upon initial exploration of the program, we were pleased to see the many choices of electives and foreign language options that our students would enjoy. Core subjects, such as math, language arts and science, will remain a priority in our academic program, but students will also have the freedom to make course choices based on their interests.”
Lake Christian Academy understands that to truly prepare each student for a successful future, they need to provide them technology-enabled, personalized learning now. By creating this blended learning program, the Academy is using these formative years to instill the skills and knowledge that their students need to be successful.
“The bottom line is that LCA’s unwavering mission is to come alongside parents to provide a Christ centered education with academic excellence. Now, with the help of some of the best teachers in the U.S., we feel like we are delivering on that promise. Our students not only receive a biblically based education, they have access to advanced academic classes right here at the Lake,” Kendall said.
Lake Christian Academy (formerly Lake West Christian Academy) board of directors recently made the decision to change the name of the Academy. “The Lake of the Ozarks is the centerpiece of the area we love to serve.
The “Lake” will be highlighted to ensure that our name aligns with our reach. Along with the busload of students from the East each day, we are currently blessed with families coming to school from all directions and all areas of the lake,” Kendall said.
Lake Christian Academy would like to extend an invitation to all interested persons to attend an informational meeting about the school at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2015. For more information contact Lake Christian Academy at 573-374-1500, or online at www.LakeChristianAcademy.com.
