LEBANON, Missouri- “Lebanon, the Heart of Route 66” is the winner of the slogan contest sponsored by the Lebanon-Laclede County Route 66 Society for promoting the The Mother Road in Lebanon.
The Route 66 Society board chose the slogan from 28 entries at its monthly board meeting Tuesday.
The artwork accompanying this article is a first draft of how the slogan might be used in advertising and on banners.
The winning slogan was suggested by Howard Fuller of Lebanon. Fuller, who has served 12 years on the Route 66 Society board, donated the $66 prize back to the organization. The board then voted to award the prize to B. Sue Bohannon of Conway, whose entry, “At home on Route 66,” was the second choice.
During the discussion, board members said they wanted a slogan that is short and catchy and that mentions both Lebanon and Route 66.
In other business, the board agreed to partner with The Lebanon Daily Record on an updated tourism map that lists the location of all Route 66 landmarks, past and present, in Laclede County. The Route 66 Society and The Daily Record partnered on a similar project in 2003. That map can be seen here.
Beth Chism, general manager of The Daily Record, met with the board and proposed that the new map be printed in an easy-to-handle magazine format, with the county divided into segments. Historic photos and articles about Route 66 in Laclede County will be included in the magazine as space permits. The Route 66 Society will supply the photos, articles and locations of landmarks. Businesses will have the opportunity to buy advertising for the map/magazinein January.
Between 3,000 and 5,000 extra copies will be printed for distribution by Nicole McGinnis, Lebanon tourism director, at the Missouri State Fair and other venues.
