LONDON- The East Anglican Daily Times is reporting at least four people have died after a knifeman brought terror to the heart of Westminster, mowing down pedestrians then stabbing a policeman. The attacker was shot dead by armed officers.
One of the dead is the policeman who was stabbed, while another is the attacker, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.
Around 20 other people have been injured, police confirmed at 6pm, around three hours after the attack happened.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of terror as the attacker was shot several times as he approached a second officer within yards of the Houses of Parliament.
The report says Scotland Yard is treating it “as a terrorist incident until we know otherwise”.
A number of other people have been hurt – including some with “catastrophic” injuries – in the incident on Westminster Bridge, a junior doctor at St Thomas’ Hospital has said.
Paramedics fought to save the attacker’s life and that of his victim on the floor of the cobbled courtyard in front of Parliament with Foreign Office minister Tobias Ellwood among those who rushed to help.
The attacker mowed down several pedestrians as he drove a grey Hyundai i40 across Westminster Bridge before crashing it into railings then running through the gates of the Palace of Westminster and stabbing the officer.
