FORT LEONARD WOOD, Missouri (GUIDON Report)–Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area is a great place to get away from all the worries of the everyday life.
It is a four-season resort, whether it’s January or July, LORA has much to offer for service members, Families, retirees and Department of Defense civilians.
LORA is nestled in the heart of the Ozarks. The Lake of the Ozarks has 55,000 miles of waterways and boasts more than 1,115 miles of shoreline. With a 360-acre facility that is located just 57 miles Northeast of Fort Leonard Wood, FMWR customers can take part in camping, boating, swimming, water skiing, fishing and other outdoor activities.
LORA offers a low-cost place for rest and relaxation, close enough to home to make the most of your vacation time, but far enough away to escape, too.
LORA offers a variety of accommodations, from scenic, rustic camp sites, RV hook-ups, to cabins.
Cabins range from one-bedroom to three-bedroom. Each comes equipped with air-conditioning in the summer and fully winterized for comfort in the winter months. Each cabin is fully equipped with one might need, including pots, pans, dishes, utensils, coffee maker, toaster, microwaves and stove tops. Each unit has flat-screen TV’s with satellite programing, as well as barbecues and fire pits. Playgrounds can be found throughout the recreation area for the little ones.
The LORA Country Store is available to provide the basics for camping and fishing. The store carries ice, beer, firewood, and a selection of food including snacks and staples like milk, eggs and bread.
Lake of the Ozarks offers year-round fishing and boating (weather permitting). LORA’s Marina rents a variety of watercraft, pontoon boats, bass boats, deck boats and jet skis plus wake boards and turbo tubes. The launch ramp is open year round and available to LORA guests. LORA offers both wet and dry storage.
The private beach area is open during summer months. Located by the beach, the lakeside pavilion is available for unit and office parties, birthdays, weddings, Family reunions and other special events. LORA supplies picnic tables and large grills for cooking.
LORA is a short drive away from many of Missouri’s most popular tourist attractions. There are caves waiting to be explored, amusement and water parks, golf courses, gift shops, as well as many restaurants and night clubs. LORA welcomes active-duty military, retired military, members of the National Guard and Reserves, DOD employees with ID cards, Family members and Fort Leonard Wood contract employees.
