SAN ANTONIO, Texas-   John Holcombe, who lost eight members of his family in the Sutherland Springs church shooting in Texas quoted Romans 8:28- “We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.”

Holcombe lost his wife Crystal, three of his stepchildren: 11-year-old Emily Rose Hill, 13-year-old Gregory Lynn Hill, and 9-year-old Megan Gail Hill; his parents, 58-year-old Karla Plain Holcombe and 60-year-old John Bryan Holcombe (who was an associate pastor leading the service) his brother 36-year-old Marc Daniel Holcombe, and his niece 1-year-old Noah Holcombe. John, himself, was wounded in the shooting.

Crystal Holcombe’s two other children, a 15-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter, lost both of their parents. The daughter was grazed by a bullet and the son was not in church that day.

Crystal was a widow when John married her and became a “new dad” for five kids.

“Regarding our baby, we don’t know if it was a boy or a girl. It was too soon to tell. However, we have a name for our baby, who died in the womb.Carlin Brite “Billy Bob” Holcombe

This includes Crystal’s pick for a girl, a boy, and the nickname the kids gave the baby.

Crystal was very thoughtful when coming up with these names. Carlin means small champion. It also sounds like KarlaCarolyn, and Charles.

“Billy Bob” is the nickname the kids gave the baby.”
