Joe Gibbs Racing is announcing Missourian Carl Edwards is retiring from NASCAR racing. He leaves with 27 cup wins and 38 XFINITY wins.
Biography.com says Edwards was born on August 15, 1979, in Columbia, Missouri. He studied at the University of Missouri. He was briefly employed as a substitute teacher, but determined to become a professional racecar driver and entered races whenever he could. Jack Roush took notice of him and in 2003, Edwards was in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. In 2005, he became a full-time driver for the NEXTEL Cup.
