STEELVILLE, Missouri- Detectives from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office say they have arrested Edward L. Skiles, age 54, of Desloge, Missouri in connection with the shooting incident that occurred in the 1000 block of Possom Hollow Rd, Bourbon, Mo. Also arrested in connection with the shooting incident was Doris A. Jones, age 55, of Arnold, Missouri.
The agency says that on July 1st, at approximately 4:00 a.m., deputies with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a reported burglary in progress where the suspect had been shot by the home owner upon making forced entry into the residence. The suspect then fled the area in a vehicle and was later located in Sullivan, Missouri at a gas station suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. The deceased has been identified as Jesse A. Moritz, age 34, of Bourbon, Missouri.
The investigation by detectives determined around 4:00 a.m. Skiles, Moritz, and Jones arrived at a residence on Possom Hollow Rd. Upon their arrival Moritz got out of the vehicle with his face covered and a baseball bat in his hand. Skiles and Jones remained in the vehicle and could hear glass breaking and what they believed to be a gun shot. Moritz returned to the vehicle and stated he had been shot. They then fled the area.
Felony Murder 2nd degree charges have been filed for Edward L. Skiles for his connection in the incident. He is currently in custody at the Crawford County Jail as a warrant has been issued for Murder 2nd Degree in lieu of posting a cash/10% bond of $340,000.
Doris A. Jones is also currently being held at the Crawford County Jail as a warrant has been issued for Possession of a Controlled Substance with a cash/surety bond of $7,000.00.
The charges for these individuals are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction, whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence.
