ST. JOSEPH, Missouri- The body of 17 year-old Kaytlin Angela Root was discovered by a jogger last Sunday morning at Krug Park and now a man has been taken into custody in connection with her death. She was found on a trail in the park. Sebastian Dudley Dowell, 18, has been charged with second degree murder. A female juvenile is also in custody but has not been charged.

“I’m letting everyone know they have my daughters killer in custody and charges has been filed,” David Stephens posted on Facebook.

“Kaytlin was a beautiful young lady who always brought a smile to everyone she met. She had a big heart and shared it with everyone,” her obituary said.

The St. Joseph School District says Kaytlin had been a student at Central High School for the first semester of the 2015-16 school year  but then withdrew the second semester to be home schooled and returned to enroll at Lafayette High School for the start of the 2016-17 year and withdrew with a parent on Aug. 31st.  Kaytlin tried to return to public school but was denied because had lagged behind in requirements.

Funeral arraignments for Root have been made at Clark-Sampson Funeral Home.  Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Clark-Sampson Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Patee Park Baptist Church, where she attended.

Memorials have been suggested to the Crime Victims Compensation Fund or, Funeral  expenses for Kaytlin.
