EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio- City of East Liverpool Ohio police posted controversial photos Thursday of overdosed parents passed out in an attempt to dissuade drug users.
“We feel it necessary to show the other side of this horrible drug. We feel we need to be a voice for the children caught up in this horrible mess. This child can’t speak for himself but we are hopeful his story can convince another user to think twice about injecting this poison while having a child in their custody, ” they said in the Facebook post.
However, many on social media are unhappy the pictures were posted with blurring the face of the child to hide his identity.
These are some of the responses:
“Why in the world would you not protect this little boy’s identity? Shame on you!”
“The child’s face needs to be blurred out….. I get the emotional side of this. LEO are sick of dealing with the effects of drug abuse from opiates. It takes a tool in them when it involves kids. However I agree its important to show the community the reality of whats going in you can still accomplish that without compromising the child’s identity.”
“There are many reasons there are laws on the books protecting juveniles identities. From the photo someone could identify the child before they could identify the suspects. He’s the only one with his entire face visible. They should not have subjected him to this unnecessary attention. They will soon probably find out through civil suits that this was not the best idea they have ever had. My heart is broken for him. They will one day have the right to try and earn custody of this child back, if they rehabilitate themselves. This photo will only lead to future judgement and ridicule. I understand what they were trying to accomplish by publishing this photo, however there can be no good that comes of it for this innocent child. Hopefully someone will be his voice and hold the City of East Liverpool accountable. I am beside myself with disgust over their unprofessional behavior.”
