POLK, Missouri- Gwinneth Payne, 87, of Polk, Missouri, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield as a result of burns sustained in a local fire, the funeral home announced.
Holman Howe Funeral Home says Gwinneth was born January 29, 1930, in Polk, Missouri, the eldest child of Ray and Zelda Reynolds. She was saved and baptized at the age of twelve at Sentinel Missionary Baptist Church in Polk County, Missouri, and remained a dedicated member there throughout most of her adult life.
She was united in marriage to Herman Russel Payne on October 9, 1946, and to this union were born three children: Russel Payne of Bolivar, Dixie Foster of Bolivar, and Leslie Payne of Polk. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Herman, in 2010.
“Gwinneth was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a very industrious individual who spent her time cooking, sewing, gardening, helping out on the farm, and always seeing to the needs of others. She was a faithful member of Sentinel Church until health no longer permitted her to attend. She will long be remembered for her delicious meals, delicate needlework, and beautiful alto singing voice,” her obituary read.
Survivors include her three children: Russel Payne and wife, Janice, of Bolivar, Dixie Foster and husband, Michael, of Bolivar, Leslie Payne and wife, Susan, of Polk; four siblings: sister Dorothy Meese and husband, Gene, of Bolivar; sister Willa Hood of Bolivar; brother Jerry Reynolds and wife, Ann, of Bowling Green, Kentucky; brother Neil Reynolds and wife, Donna, of Polk; and a sister-in- law, Ruth Jones of Bolivar. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Amy Bruce, Angela Legan, Alicia Roberts, Bryant Foster, Suzanne Evans, Derek Payne, and Ashley Moore; thirteen great- grandchildren: Jessica, Claire, Zachary, Mary, Dillon, Drew, Anna, Audrey, Caleb, Rachel, Kennedy, Bentley and Blake; two step-great-grandchildren: Payton and Maddy; two great-great-grandchildren: Lucy and Emma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
“Gwinneth will forever hold a place in the hearts of all who knew her.”
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service, from 10:00 to 11:00 am, on Friday, February 24, 2017, at the Butler Funeral Home Chapel, in Bolivar, Missouri.
