INDIANAPOLIS Indiana- Students and sponsors from the Stoutland School District and Richland School District were on their way home from the National FFA Convention today via a school bus and were struck from behind by two vehicles as they were sitting in traffic, the district said in a released statement.

“As a safety precaution, students with minor injuries have been taken to a local hospital to be medically cleared while those uninjured were transported to the local high school to await alternate transportation home.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved, and continued prayers as they travel home,” the statement concluded.

The crash happened in the westbound lanes of I-70 near mile marker 59 just before 1 p.m.

Dispatchers with Hendricks County say, a school bus was involved and kids were on board. Originally dispatchers told 24-Hour News 8 that no students were injured. Indiana State Police later reported a “handful” of students were transported to the hospital.  A 19 year-old Utah man has died.
