MARIES COUNTY, Missouri- A Friday evening crash resulted in the death of a Dixon teen and caused a Crocker teen to be hospitalized.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 16 year-old Mikayla Sherrell of Dixon was pronounced deceased at the accident site on Highway BB. She was a passenger.
Kelsie Shoemaker 16, the driver, was transported to University Hospital in Columbia. Troopers say she suffered moderate injuries.
Both occupants were wearing safety belts.
“It is with a heavy heart tonight that we seek prayers for the parents, sister, and extended family of Mikayla Sherrell. Remember her friends, fellow classmates and students for their loss, also.
Please keep the family, friends, school and community in your thoughts and prayers as we grieve the loss of this special person in the coming days, weeks, and months,” Dixon R-1 High School said in a Facebook post.
The crash happened when the vehicle left the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, crossed the roadway and traveled off the left side. The 2005 Scion then struck a tree.
Sherrell’s body was taken to Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home.
Trooper Wensel responded at 6:55 p.m. He was assisted by Trooper Cpl. Fulkerson.
