ROLLA, Missouri- The Phelps County Sheriff’s Department is hoping the public can help identify a woman found deceased on the shoulder of I-44. They are being assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol in the investigation.
The unidentified white woman, thought to be between the ages of 25 and 35 years old, was discovered on Saturday shortly before 1:30 a.m. to the 171 westbound mile marker which is located between Exit 169 at J Highway and Exit 172 at Hog Hollow Road and Smith Hollow.
The woman was wearing a blue and red colored sun dress and flip-flops. Her hair was dark but had been dyed dark blue. She had several tattoos on her right and left shoulder blade area (below), and one on her right foot and ankle (above). She also had a large scar on her left inner thigh.
An autopsy has not positively identified the woman. The cause of death has not been provided but authorities are investigating the death as a homicide.
