PHELPS COUNTY, Missouri- The Missouri State Highway Patrol says that a sleeping man from Lebanon crashed on I-44 early Tuesday morning. The incident happened at the mile marker 172.

The driver of the car was identified as Stephen Branch, 31. His passenger, Jobrina Dailey, 39, also from Lebanon, was taken by ambulance to Phelps County Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Troopers say Branch was westbound when he left the right side of the roadway after dozing off. He then over-corrected and went off the left side of the road striking an embankment. The 2016 Dodge Dart received moderate damage.

Trooper Sgt. Cunningham responded at 4:05 a.m.
