SPARTA, Missouri- 19 year-old Cole Iorg of Bruner, Missouri lost his life Friday night in a single motor vehicle accident. The young man had served as a firefighter for the Sparta Fire Protection District. Next of kin have been notified.
“It’s with a heavy heart we report the loss of one of our own firefighters. FF Cole Iorg lost his life in a motor vehicle accident last night. Cole was new to the fire service but was carrying on a family tradition, he was following in his father and grandfather’s footsteps. Cole made a big impact on all of us here at Sparta and he will be missed dearly. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends in this hard time,” the agency stated in a Facebook post.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Iorg was an occupant in a pickup truck driven by 16 year-old Weston Smith, of Sparta. Another passenger, Tristan Weter suffered minor injuries. None of the occupants were wearing seat belts according to the patrol.
The crash happened when the Chevy 2500 pickup truck ran off MO 125 near Garrison, struck a tree and overturned. Iorg was pronounced deceased at the scene by Christian County Coroner Mandi Armitage.
Troopers Mueller and Richardson responded to the scene at 10:45 p.m.
