SAINT ROBERT, Missouri- A swimmer did not resurface Friday on the Gasconade River and was recovered deceased by search teams.

The MSHP Water Patrol  says that Mark Joseph S. Concepcion, 35, of St. Robert, drowned Friday afternoon in the Gasconade River near the Riddle Bridge.

Riddle Bridge connects Highway Y leading south to St. Robert with Cave Road and Highway O leading north to Dixon.

According the patrol report, Concepcion attempted to swim across the river around 2:20 p.m., submerged and did not resurface. His body was recovered at 4:17 p.m., he was pronounced dead by the assistant coroner, and was transported to Waynesville Memorial Chapel. Concepcion was not wearing a life vest.

Sheriff Jimmy Bench released the following information on the incident:

At approximately 2:15pm on 6-16-2017, the Pulaski County 911 Communication Center notified the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office of a possible drowning in the Gasconade River at the Riddle bridge Access on Rt. Y. Emergency responders sent to the scene included fire, EMS, and sheriff’s deputies. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was notified and they sent officers from their Water Patrol Division to the location.

When deputies arrived on the scene they were told a male subject had attempted to swim across the Gasconade River and had disappeared about halfway across the river. The deputies were also told that citizens at the scene attempted to reach him but were unsuccessful.

The Missouri State Troopers launched their boat and began their search. At approximately 4:16pm they recovered the body from the River. The Pulaski County Coroner, Gary Carmack, was on the scene and took charge of the body.
