VERSAILLES, Missouri– The Versailles Rural Fire Protection District says Fire Chief Troy Nichols, age 54, of Versailles passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the University Hospital in Columbia.
His daughter-in-law, Michelle Renee Nichols posted the following on Facebook:
“Troy was diagnosed with Melanoma cancer close to a year and a half ago on his back. A very aggressive Melanoma. Troy had been on medications, had treatments of radiation and chemo, continued to work, support his community, and love his family—he continued to fight, too stubborn to quit. We all believed in him and we all believed he was going to grind this mountain into sand. Troy fought one heck of a fight and (despite our selfish thoughts), ultimately—Troy won. He won Jesus, he won a home with no pain and no cancer, he won the jackpot that most of us can only dream of.”
A celebration of life will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 29, at the Versailles High School Football Field. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the VHS football field. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Versailles Rural Fire Department. A complete obituary will be posted at a later date.
