LINCOLN COUNTY, West Virginia- WSAZ reports a West Virginia State Trooper is in surgery after being shot multiple times following a domestic dispute early Tuesday morning outside of Charleston, West Virginia.
State Police say the trooper was hit in the extremities around 2 a.m. Tuesday. They say he does not have life-threatening injuries.
“Corporal D. S. Fry was wounded in the wrist and shoulder early this morning while responding to a domestic disturbance in Lincoln County, WV. His injuries are non-life threatening; however, they are serious. The West Virginia State Police thanks everyone for their concern and words of encouragement. Please continue to remember Corporal Fry and his family in your thoughts and prayers as he begins a long road toward recovery,” the agency said in a release.
A woman was inside the apartment at the time of the dispute and was injured in some capacity. She was taken to the hospital for treatment but there is no information about her injuries or her condition.
State Police tell WSAZ-TV the suspect in the shooting is currently in a standoff with authorities at the apartment complex where the shooting happened.
Troopers remain in contact with the shooting suspect and have him cornered inside the apartment complex.
The injured trooper was able to drive himself to get help and meet first responders where he was then taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
