WICHITA, Kansas-  The Wichita Police Department says  their police dog,  K-9 Rooster, was shot and killed in the line of duty Saturday evening.

At approximately 8 PM on 03-18-2017, Wichita Police Officers were dispatched to a disturbance with a weapon at a residence inside the Lamplighter Mobile Home Park located in the 2300 block of E. MacArthur. Shortly after officers arrived on scene the suspect of the disturbance came outside.

A Wichita Police K-9 Handler released K-9 Rooster to apprehend the suspect after they saw him with a gun in his hand. The suspect then shot and killed the police dog, officers said. Police then returned fire and strucking and injuring the suspect, he was then transported for treatment.
K-9 Rooster has served with the Wichita Police Department for five years and was a Belgan Malinois. “He will be greatly missed by all, ” they said.
