JEROME, Missouri- Authorities say the body of a woman who drowned in the Gasconade River Wednesday has been recovered.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol has identified the victim as Dorcas Reyes-Deleon, 35, of St. Robert.
The patrol says Reyes-Deleon was attempting to cross the waterway but became submerged and did not resurface.
The woman was found by dive team members about 300 feet from where she was last seen about 8 p.m. She had apparently been with a group of people near the railroad bridge near Jerome. She was pronounced deceased by Coroner Andy Davis. She has been taken to University Hospital where an autopsy will be conducted.
This was initially reported by the Doolittle Fire Department:
“Last night at 7:55 PM, DRFPD and Phelps County EMS were dispatched to the Gasconade River Bridge in Jerome for a possible water rescue/drowning. DRFPD responded along with the City of Rolla Fire and Rescue’s Water Rescue Team, the Phelps County Sheriffs Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Several boats were used to search the area where the subject possibly went under and never resurfaced.
After searching for several hours using SONAR and drags, nothing was located. The Missouri State Highway Patrol Dive Team will take over the search tomorrow morning. This is an ongoing investigation and we will release more information when it becomes available.”
Trooper Glendenning responded at 7:56 pm and was assisted by other troopers
A St. Robert man drowned in the Gasconade on June 16th at the Riddle Bridge as he attempted to cross the river.
