LACLEDE COUNTY, Missouri- A mechanic was airlifted after being struck in the median on I-44 near Lebanon Wednesday evening. The incident occurred at the 136 mm.

Mitchel Walker, 35, from St. Robert was treated for serious injuries at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Walker was hit while working on the shoulder by Richard Sanders, 60, of St. Louis. Troopers say Sanders fled the scene but was later located at the 227 mile marker, in the St. Louis area, nearly 90 miles from the original incident. The involved 1995 Buick LeSabre had extensive damage.

Charges have been filed by  Prosecuting Attorney Jon Morris against Sanders for felony leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in injury. A hearing has not yet been scheduled in the case.
