Manage winter cattle feeding and feeding areas for a successful feeding season

“To feed cattle efficiently through the winter months, sort cattle by size or body condition and feed according to need. Also make sure adequate bunk space is available for supplement consumption.”
“As winter approaches, proper cattle feeding and feeding area management is important to animal health and performance,” says Patrick Davis MU Extension Livestock Field Specialist. Below, he discusses winter cattle feeding and feeding area management strategies for a successful feeding season.
“Help your pastures by moving hay feeding locations frequently to help reduce mud and adequately distribute manure,” says Davis. Cattle producers can feed hay daily by rolling it out across the pasture. Also, producers may implement bale grazing which involves placing hay bales throughout a field and utilizing electric temporary fence to allocate bales daily to the cattle herd. Davis suggests both of these options to cut down on wastage, animal congregation resulting in mud, and adequately distributing cattle manure and fertility which leads to better pastures in the long run.
“Consider pastures that you plan to renovate or with poor grass stands as potential hay feeding areas,” says Davis. He urges hay feeding in these areas to provide fertility to help improve the current grass stand or for future renovation projects.
“If animals are required to congregate in a feeding area during the winter months make sure to pick the proper location and manage the location to cut down on moisture and mud,” says Davis. Select a south facing slope as far away from water as possible. South facing slopes allow more sunlight which helps to dry the area and warm the cattle. Also, the location should have a nearly level slope to cut down on runoff. Consult with your local MU Extension agriculture engineer on strategies that might help reduce mud and moisture in winter-feeding areas, which will help lead to adequate health of the cattle during the winter months.
“To feed cattle efficiently through the winter months, sort cattle by size or body condition and feed according to need. Also make sure adequate bunk space is available for supplement consumption,” says Davis. Visit with your local MU Extension Livestock Field Specialist about sorting and feeding cattle to meet their nutrient need during the winter months. Make sure there are at least 24 inches of bunk space per cow, 18 inches per growing calf, or 12 inches per feedlot calf. Davis urges cattle producers to use these suggestions to efficiently meet cattle nutrient needs during the winter months which helps promote cattle health, performance, and profitability.
Davis urges cattle producers to implement these strategies to cut waste as well as promote optimum health and performance of cattle through the winter-feeding period which should lead to optimum profitability. For more information on topics discussed contact your local MU Extension Center.

Anna Glennon Makes Waves in E1 Racing with Stellar Career Trajectory

MIAMI, FL – February 19, 2025 – Anna Glennon, the jet ski world champion turned electric powerboat racing sensation, continues to carve out an impressive career in the UIM E1 World Championship, the pioneering all-electric boat racing series. As one half of the dynamic duo piloting Team Miami, owned by Latin music icon Marc Anthony, Glennon has solidified her status as a standout talent in this groundbreaking motorsport.
Glennon’s journey to E1 began on the waters of Lake of the Ozarks, where she grew up under the influence of her father, a master mechanic. From a young age, she was immersed in the world of speedboats, motorcycles, and jet skis, sparking a passion that would lead her to become an eight-time U.S. and Canadian national jet ski champion. Her transition to E1 racing came through the series’ Pilot Academy, a program designed to scout and train new talent for its futuristic RaceBird boats. “Competing in the RaceBird is more like flying than driving – it’s an unreal experience,” Glennon remarked in an interview with The Gentleman Racer last year, highlighting the unique thrill of the electric hydrofoil crafts that lift off the water at high speeds.
Since joining Team Miami alongside Swedish pilot Erik Stark, a six-time powerboat world champion, Glennon has been instrumental in the team’s rise to prominence. The duo’s complementary skills—Stark’s precision and Glennon’s fearless agility—propelled Team Miami to their first victory of the 2024 season at the E1 Puerto Banús GP in Marbella, Spain, on June 2. Battling choppy waters and fierce competition, Glennon and Stark showcased exceptional control, securing the win and vaulting Team Miami to the top of the championship standings at that point.
Team Miami’s success has continued to build momentum throughout the inaugural season, with Glennon’s contributions drawing praise for their consistency and flair. Currently leading the pack after several races, the team is gearing up for the highly anticipated E1 Miami GP, scheduled for November 2025 at Miami Marine Stadium. The event, a partnership between E1 and Anthony’s Magnus company, promises to bring electric motorsport to the forefront of Miami’s sporting scene, complete with fan festivals and sustainability initiatives—causes Glennon passionately supports.

What sets Glennon apart in E1 is not just her skill but her role in breaking barriers. As part of the series’ commitment to gender inclusivity, each team fields one male and one female pilot, a format unique among major motorsports. Glennon, who has faced physical challenges in the male-dominated world of racing due to her smaller stature—she’s often weighed under 100 lbs during her career—sees this as both a challenge and an advantage. “There have been challenges, but also advantages,” she told The Gentleman Racer. “In racing itself, my biggest challenge has been physical, but it’s taught me how to harmonize with the machine.”
As the 2024 season nears its climax, with the championship finale still pending, Glennon’s focus remains on adding an E1 title to her already illustrious resume. Her journey from jet ski prodigy to electric boat racing star underscores her adaptability and determination, qualities that have made her a fan favorite and a key figure in E1’s mission to revolutionize motorsport. With the 2025 season on the horizon—kicking off in Qatar, as announced last October—Glennon is poised to further cement her legacy in this sustainable, high-octane sport.
For now, all eyes are on Glennon and Team Miami as they prepare to race on home waters later this year, aiming to bring the championship trophy to Miami and solidify Anna Glennon’s place among racing’s elite.

Osage Beach Embraces New Development and Technology Amidst Controversy with License Plate Readers

Osage Beach, Missouri – As the city of Osage Beach welcomes new developments like the Oasis and Marriott, local authorities are also preparing for the challenges these changes bring, particularly in terms of public safety and infrastructure.
In a recent city meeting, officials discussed the implications of these new establishments on local traffic and safety. “With the Oasis coming in, the Marriott coming in, people are already seeing the surge in interest from developers for additional hotel projects. “The Oasis is probably the attraction for that, in my opinion,” they added, suggesting a ripple effect of economic growth.
However, with growth comes the need for enhanced safety measures. The city has been actively buying license plate readers (LPRs) to enhance law enforcement capabilities.
The discussion around LPRs has sparked debate, particularly concerning privacy. “Some comments on social media have been about violations of the Fourth Amendment,” noted one speaker, addressing public concerns. They went on to explain that LPRs only capture license plates, which are government-issued, thus not directly infringing on personal privacy. “It’s about reading a government document on a government road,” they argued, countering claims of personal rights violations.
The effectiveness of LPRs was illustrated with a recent crime where an ATM theft led to the arrest of four individuals, including one with a murder warrant, thanks to the technology. “Because of a license plate reader, they were able to track these individuals down in Oklahoma,” the official stated, underlining the potential benefits for crime prevention and resolution.
Yet, not everyone is on board. Camden County has ordinances against using LPRs in unincorporated areas, and there’s a pushback at the state level with House Bill 658, aiming to ban them statewide. This has caused friction, with local leaders like Alderman Rucker being vocal about their utility and urging citizens to engage with county commissioners to reconsider their stance.

As Osage Beach navigates these changes, the city leadership remains open to public input. “If you have a beef, I want to hear about it,” said Mayor Harmison, emphasizing a commitment to transparency and community involvement in shaping the city’s future.
