The Military Rodeo Cowboys Association (MRCA) is a prominent rodeo organization that primarily represents active duty military personnel and veterans. Their mission is to host high-quality rodeo events for their members, allowing them to pursue their rodeo aspirations while still honoring their military service commitments. Additionally, the MRCA is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization with a focus on supporting veterans.
The MRCA has a long history that dates back to 1989 when they began organizing rodeo events around the world to recognize and celebrate military cowboys and cowgirls. Their motto, “The Armed Forces and Rodeo, Two Great American Traditions,” highlights the intersection of military service and the rodeo culture. They successfully sanctioned hundreds of rodeos until the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
Due to the significant military commitments and challenges arising from the 9/11 attacks, the MRCA had to suspend its operations temporarily. However, in 2018, they were able to reestablish the association and embark on the journey of rebuilding their presence and activities. Their goal now is to explore opportunities across the United States to sanction rodeos that will enable their members to qualify for the World Finals Rodeo. In essence, they are dedicated to “continuing the tradition” of recognizing and supporting military cowboys and cowgirls while promoting the rodeo as an American tradition.
