LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. – A local developer is working on a new project to put the Lake of the Ozarks on the map.
A local developer is working on a new project to help popularize Lake of the Ozarks. Dr. Dan Foster wants to bring a sports complex and events center to the lake. A big arena is a place for basketball tournaments, volleyball tournaments, cheerleading tournaments, or gymnastics, lots of similar things,” Foster said. “It’s the kind of activity that draws people to the Lake of the Ozarks area.”
Foster is no stranger to the Lake of the Ozarks region. He is a sixth generation member of the foster family living here. He was also a dentist in the area while his wife is a registered nurse. In addition to his work as a dentist, he began developing condominiums and hotels around the lake. Foster along with partners have built and developed Cedar Glen in Camdenton, Cedar Heights Condominiums and Park Place Condominiums a development in the state park, near Osage Beach, and then Miramar north of Camdenton and Lock Haven which is north of Camdenton. Another project that he did on with his own business was to build Meridian Condominiums, which is also located in Osage Beach.
Since 2004 he has been the owner of the land for the planned sports complex. “We came up with several different ideas, developed it, and then basically turned it into what it is. It is a large unit at 140,000 square feet. It is not just a meeting room, but a sports facility that can be used for meetings and congresses. Foster says this is a family business. , and credits his son for the idea. He says that not only will this be a sports complex, but there will also be spaces and activities for families. “Well it will be the hospitality complex with rooms for rent like a hotel and various other things. The villas will be available for rent. With all the traffic, I expect it will be a very successful situation,” said Foster. Foster also hopes that implementing this idea here in the area will also benefit nearby lodging businesses, including Margaritaville and Four Seasons Lodging in Camden County. At the moment, the project could start this summer and finish in 2024. But there are still many legal procedures to go through, including the approval of a TIF package to fund the project.
